Day Trip to Nafplio, Epidaurus, Corinth, Loutraki

– Nafplio is a seaport town in the Peloponnese in Greece that has expanded up the hillsides near the north end of the Argolic Gulf. The town was an important seaport held under a succession of royal houses in the Middle Ages as part of the lordship of Argos and Nauplia, held initially by the de la Roche following the Fourth Crusade before coming under the Republic of Venice and, lastly, the Ottoman Empire. The town was the capital of the First Hellenic Republic and of the Kingdom of Greece, from the start of the Greek Revolution in 1821 until 1834. The more adventurous will have the opportunity to visit the Palamidi fortress enjoying a spectacular view.

– Epidaurus was a small city in ancient Greece, at the Saronic Gulf. It was the birthplace of Apollo’s son Asclepius the healer, Epidaurus was known for its sanctuary situated about five miles (8 km) from the town, as well as its theater, which is once again in use today. The asclepeion at Epidaurus was the most celebrated healing center of the Classical world, the place where ill people went in the hope of being cured. To find out the right cure for their ailments, they spent a night in the enkoimeteria, a big sleeping hall. In their dreams, the god himself would advise them what they had to do to regain their health. The prosperity brought by the asclepeion enabled Epidaurus to construct civic monuments, including the huge theatre that delighted Pausanias for its symmetry and beauty, used again today for dramatic performances.The theatre is admired for its exceptional acoustics, which permit almost perfect intelligibility of unamplified spoken words from the proscenium or skēnē to all 14,000 spectators, regardless of their seating.

– Corinth  is an ancient city about 48 miles west of Athens on the narrow stretch of land that joins the Peloponnese to the mainland of Greece. Corinth was an important city in ancient Greece and it played a major role in the missionary work of the Apostle Paul. Today, Corinth is the second largest city in the Peloponnese with several sites of interest to pilgrims and tourists. You will have the chance to admire the ancient monuments, the famous Canal and visit the seaside resort on the Gulf of Corinth, Loutraki.

Visiting Loutraki may upon request to be accompanied by treatment at the thermal baths of Loutraki. The Thermal Water of Loutraki, has linked its name from ancient times, with the treatment of many prominent personalities, among them the Roman military and civilian Lucius Cornelius Sulla (138 p.Ch- 78 BC), who was cured of severe skin disease. The beneficial effects of thermal water, was much earlier known in the ancient world, as the historian Xenophon wrote, the Spartans soldiers after battles, to rest and rejuvenate, went into the healing waters of Thermes. The use of the healing water of Loutraki continued throughout the period of Byzantine and post-Byzantine times and then Loutraki, with reference to the thermal baths, recognized as the first therapeutic station in Greece. From centuries ago the Thermal Water of Loutraki, has been established as a symbol of natural healthy living, wellness and rejuvenation and  this unique gift of nature has been characterized as ” water of life ”.
